Latest News - New Gas Safety Brand
The Health & Safety Executive / Captia have just announced the name for the gas installer registration scheme to replace the current CORGI registration within Great Britain; it will be called Gas Safe Register. This new brand will be launched to the industry this week and will become the official voice and register for gas safety in Great Britain taking the place of CORGI from 1st April 2009. This new brand, although run by the Captia organisation, will be owned be the Health & Safety Executive.
There will of course be a national awareness campaign beginning in March to launch the new Gas Safe Register to the general public. This campaign will include radio, press and poster advertising and other PR activities that are hoped will generate a great deal of TV and press publicity. The new register is tasked with achieving an unprompted 40% public recognition by October next year; therefore, they have a great deal of work to do with both the public and installers in order to gain this level of recognition.
As with the existing and outgoing CORGI scheme, from 1st of April 2009, all gas engineers must be registered with Gas Safe Register to undertake gas work legally. The new company will start the process off in January by inviting all existing CORGI registered businesses to register under the new scheme.
